When you crochet in the round, your stitches don’t form straight rows. Instead, they spiral, with one round flowing smoothly into the next. Once you know where to start and what to look for, you’ll be able to count your rounds and keep any project on track.

How to count rounds

Watch the lesson

The heart of it

Each round you work shows up as one line, spiralling out from the center. To count your rounds, you count those lines — one for each time around.

Step-by-step instructions

Step 1:

Look at the center of your piece.

This is where your work began, and it’s always Round 1.

Find the center

Step 2:

From the center, count the rounds as they move outward.

Each round forms its own line, even as they spiral.

Count each line one by one — Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and so on.

Count outward

That’s all there is to it.

Once you know where to start and what to look for, you’ll be able to count your rounds on any project.
