Counting rows helps you check that your piece is the right height and stays even. Once you know what to look for, you’ll be able to count your rows on any project.
When you crochet in rows, each row stacks on top of the one before it. Counting rows means counting those stacked rows, from the bottom up.
How to count rows
Watch the lesson
The heart of it
Each row sits stacked on the one below it. To count your rows, count the stacked rows from the bottom up — one for each line of stitches.
Step-by-step instructions
Lay your work flat with the front facing you.
Each row is a line of stitches sitting across the piece, stacked one above the next.
Step 1:
Lay your work flat
Start at the bottom row and count upward — Row 1, Row 2, Row 3, and so on.
Count each line of stitches as one row until you reach the top.
Step 2:
Count from the bottom up
That’s all there is to it.
Once you can see the rows stacked up, you’ll be able to count them on any project.
We’re right here with you every step of the way.
